Population: in 2007 the population totaled 4.052, of which 2,072 female and 1.954 male, composed within 1831 families. The 2006 election show 1954 registered voters.
Infrastruture and public services: in 2007 there were 4.154 homes, 98% of which had electricity, 95% had running water,98% had trash collection, and 95% of brick construction. The infrastructure before the urban requalification project showed 2 public grammar schools, 2 private grammar schools, 1 health post, 1 post office,1 telephone center, 20 public telephones, 1 police station, 1 sports area, 4 churches, 3 cemeteries, (old, new, and outlying), 2 football fields, 3 plaza squares, 1 bus line, 1 transport service association, 1 dune buggy association; 1 local government office, the Eulina Freire dos Santos community library, 2 internet servers via radio, and coverage by 3 cell phone companies, and 1 company for fixed phones.
Flora and fauna: A vegetation covering completes important ecological functions like: food for animals and humans, and construction material (houses, fences, and native boats called jangadas), as well as firewood. Sometree species present in the sand dunes are coconut palms, cashews, cstanhola, cardeiro, aroeira, canela, ameixa, imburana, jatobá, jurema, pau d´arco, murici, mangaba, etc. The majority of the native fauna is found at the base of the sand dunes in the native low forest: bem-te-vi, cabeça vermelha, rolinha, sabiá, urubu, maçarico, juriti,all being birds, as well as spiders, snakes, lizards,sagui ( a small dog sized mammal like a weasel, fox, another weasel like mammal, wild cats, owls, etc.
The APACQ- The Canoa Quebrada Environmental Protection Area: In 1997 the Canoa Quebrada community association obtained from the county offices an establishment of a protected area, called the APACQ. This measure hopes to control the economic growth produced by tourism, so as to insure the improvement and quality of village life, by exercising complete environmental planning which contemplates ecotourism as a principal activity of this region. The APACQ has an area of 7000 hectares (1 hectare = 10,000 square meters, n. do t.) and extends from Porto Canoa eastward to the head of Jaguaribe River, and northward including the sand dunes, mangue, and vegetation at the base of the dunes. The APACQ also includes the outlying areas of Cumbe, Canavieira, and Beirada.
